VE Day 2025
There was a lot of preparation with the High Street and the Village hall decked in bunting and Union Jack flags.
The day started at 0900 with the flag raised on our memorial.
We had a remembrance service attended by village residents, 2 Military Intelligence Battalion, children from All saints school, the Royal British Legion and both Netheravon and Fittleton cum Haxton Parish councils who all laid wreaths. A short service was conducted by the Rev Mark Christian and the names of all those lost in battle from our parishes were read out by Richard Aubrey-Fletcher.
We then moved to the village hall where there was a free afternoon tea provided by the team from our cheerful cuppa group supported by our very own Jubilee committee. With music of war time songs provided by Michael Faye and Tim Eyles there was lots of singing and dancing too. We were lucky enough to also welcome the Royal Artillery museum who provided items from the war and also their personal items.
Residents of the village also brought along their memorabilia and we had some people dressed for the occasion with a couple of military vehicles.
There was an amazing display from the children of All Saints School, with every class contributing. This was followed by maypole dancing and the school choir singing in the field.
The children came to see the displays a class at a time and then afterwards with their parents The day was completed by a peal of bells at 630 from All Saints Church Netheravon. Thank you to everyone who helped, took part or just came and supported us, it was a really fantastic day
